“In the beginning,” the Bible opens with a momentous declaration of divine presence, power and authority. God, Jehovah Elohim (in concert with the other co-equal members of the Triune Godhead) created Heaven and the earth.
It should be noted here that what actually happened in the beginning was that the Word of His infinitely-divine power created Heaven (consisting of the celestial environment with all the invisible spirit beings and their paraphernalia of existence) and the Earth (as a very tiny part of the created Universe consisting of the luminaries, multiple trillions of stars, moons and suns as well as multiple billions of galaxies and trillions of planets, etc).
When we read ‘in the beginning,’ we should also reverently note that what was actually meant was that Jehovah Elohim just appeared and justifiably so. This is because He is indeed ‘the beginning”, both in substance and imagination. There was absolutely
nothing in place before He appeared on the scene (Isaiah 43:10).
Man may therefore go ahead and contend with the Truth of the existence of Jehovah Elohim, the Infinite, Infallible and Absolute Being who created All Things, at their own peril.
Man can and has indeed make curious rationalizations about the origin of the Universe evidently anchored on severely limited, corrupted and corrugated knowledge, and wisdom, which is clearly circumscribed by incompetent and abbreviated linguistic resources. But that would be as far as mankind can go according to Isaiah 43:10b, 11,12b & 13; 44:6b-7.
In Isaiah 43:9, 10a & 12b; 44:8b, the Infinite Personality thunders in response to man’s disobedience, waywardness, wanton disregard for the Will of God and their evil ambition to challenge their Maker. It is awesome as Jehovah Elohim calls for man’s witnesses! It is obvious who has since won the contest.
He is all in Himself and by Himself in the everlasting and abiding present. He is God all by Himself. And so He could not have appeared anyhow else because He was not a created being and by any stretch of all imagination, could never have been a created being or
personality.
Jehovah Elohim is in ‘the beginning’ and ‘the beginning’ is in Him because, as one beautiful scripture so eloquently put it, “For in Him we [plus the Entire Creation as well] live, and move, and have our being;” [Acts 17:28a].
In Him is all sufficiency, all completeness, all-encompassing security, protection, joy, love, provisions, sustenance and all of man’s needs, desires, hopes, aspirations, wants, etc., met in overflowing abundance and opulence.
And therefore, outside of Him is absolutely nothing worthy or even comparable and therefore worth desiring.
And by the way His Entire Creation, including the constantly expanding Universe, dwells and lives in Him! How amazing! That clearly explains His Absolutely Infinite Nature, the all-powerful, all-present and all-knowing character which He shares with no other (Acts
17:28a).
In His presence there is neither yesterday nor tomorrow, scenarios that man has contrived to ‘reasonably’ explain the transitory nature of another of man’s linguistic contrivance, ‘time.’
And even this human linguistic contraption ‘time,’ is severely incompetent to decipher the import of that ‘everlasting and abiding present’ of His existence in ‘the beginning’ and ‘the ending.’
The Infinite and infallible Personality who emerged in Genesis 1:1 is therefore established here as ‘the beginning’ and indeed ‘the ending’ of profound and absolutely unmistakable existential reality.
And by His special grace, a very tiny, almost insignificant and formless, and ugly member of the created Universe named Earth, found favor with Jehovah Elohim.
It had since been determined by His infinite wisdom and inscrutable Name to make Earth and only the Earth habitable by a superior finite life form with who He would share fellowship and much more else.
The second verse of Genesis Chapter 1, confirms that:
“The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters”
