  • This is the story of the class of 1973 Agbaelu Grammar School; their family antecedents, people in their lives and their escapades at school. This is the story of their later careers and family as well as their devotion to their Alma mater. From humble beginnings in remote and unsung hamlets of rural post-war Democratic Republic of Songhai….the 1973 graduands of Agbaelu Grammar School emerged from the crucibles of an ambitious village school and they excelled beyond expectations….

Ikechukwu Ahamefula was one of the high-flying new kids on the block when the authorities at Agbaelu Grammar School sought to promote scholarship and academic excellence. The school which was founded in 1963 had had to endure the vagaries of a long and brutal civil war. And for most of those trying times the school served as a military cantonment for the rebel forces in the enclave.
And then authorities were eager to ensure the proper use of the facility. They dreamed of the pre-war bright and competitive skies, the excellent student and faculty materials at Agbaelu and the growing reputation of the school as a center of academic excellence around the community and beyond…
A test consisting of qualitative, quantitative and oral regimes was administered on over 150 candidates who were fresh from primary school standard six. At the first call, ninety-six of them scaled over the hurdle. And yet another set of tests was administered on those ninety-six. Ikechukwu Ahamefula had joined Okonkwo Maduako, Julius Okoro, Anthony Dimkpa and Ephraim Amadi on the prestigious list. They were later joined by Dorothy Uche, Virginus Nnadi and Ugomma Nwama.

They were known and called, The Gang.
